Smith and Tolley Century Delight!

Pocklington 3rds sponsored by Stamfords faced Selby 3s in away action for their final league game of the season but had to make the drive to Cawood for this one with Selbys ground unavailable. After losing the toss, Pock were invited to bat first much to the skippers delight who fancied batting in any case.

Pock were immediately in trouble as Selby took three early wickets to put the visitors on the back foot at 15-3, with Harry Pieterse (2), Apie Pieterse (1) and Charlie Lovelock (4) all departing. From here Adam Tolley (165*) and skipper Wes Smith (109) looked to rebuild and steady the ship. The pair played the game to perfection, picking up countless quick singles and punishing any loose deliveries as the post passed the half century mark. After a quick drinks break the pair continued their charge and were rewarded for their perseverance and consistency as both raised their bats to standing ovations after hitting terrific centuries. Smith did eventually fall for 109 in the 38th over but not before the he and Tolley had put on a 259 run fourth wicket partnership. Tolley after passing his own century upped the scoring further hitting boundaries at will to help the team finish on 307-4 and one of the highest individual club scores of all time by finishing unbeaten on 165, Josh Tanikal (1*) played a supporting role from the other end in the final two overs.

With dark skies swirling Pock wasted no time in getting stuck into the Selby batters after tea and saw wickets tumble every few overs. The evergreen Geoff Woodward (5-29) showed there is plenty left in the tank to join Smith and Tolley with an honours board entry of his own in the final day by claiming five wickets in a great eight over spell. George Room (1-8) bowled well from the other end opening up and deservedly picking up a wicket himself. Spin king Robin Miller (2-9) added a couple of wickets to his own personal tally, Alfie Whitwell (1-10) and Tanikal (1-0) with the others has Pock wrapped up the Selby innings bowling their hosts out for 66 in the 23rd over to complete a comprehensive final day win.

The win meant another ten points to the tally which importantly saw them leapgrog Selby and Tabs in the final league standings to end their first season in Division 4 with a 7th place finish.

Well done to the team and everyone who contributed this season, thanks to Tamsin & Issi for scoring as well as everyone that has umpired throughout the season. A huge thanks also to captain Wes Smith for this contributions this year and running of the side alongside all our captains and well done on a personal front to Wes who finished the year as the Division 4 Ebor league top run scorer with 723 runs.

We look forward to celebrating the season with everyone in a few weeks time at the end of season dinner!
