Pocklington 3’s return to winning ways!

Wesley Smith

6 wicket win for travelling 3’s

Well, another win, another match report!

Pock 3s were on the road again last Saturday, taking on high flyers Scarcroft 2nd XI.

On what looked to be a deck for bowling on, Skipper Smith was surprised to not only lose the toss but to be asked to bowl first.

After a slick warm up, Pocklington were underway. Lucas Tanikal, affectionately known as Lu-Lu took a wick with the very first ball of the game, a platinum duck no less!
Lucas and Josh got us through the early stages nicely, lucas removing both openers and Josh taking the scalp of Scarcrofts number 3.
Up stepped our very own king of spin, bowling in tandem with young George Room. Both bowled well, going at just over 4 an over.
However Scarcroft did keep their innings ticking over largely thanks to their skipper (who had more lives than a cat) hitting 84 off just 54 balls, he found company with a middle order bat who also hit a half century.

30 overs gone and Back came Lucas and Josh, both having an immediate impact, taking the important 2 wickets outlined above. Harry Pieterse and Josh Tanikal then cleaned up the tail, Scarcroft all out for 205.
Pick of the bowlers was Lucas, bowling very well to return figures of 4-23 off 8 overs.

Spectators watching Pock walk off would be forgiven for thinking Scarcroft had put on 500, back to the drawing board in some departments…

Anyway, tea was taken and Pock went out to bat, Lucas immediately being positive with 2 sixes in quick succession. Smith fell for just 10, followed by Adam Tolley who was looking good before being unluckily adjudged caught behind down the leg side.
In came Josh Tanikal and the brothers worked excellently together, Lucas sneaking towards a well deserved 100 before an unfortunate top edge saw him caught at square leg.
Josh was joined by a watchful Apie Pieterse and made his way to a well earned half century before wrapping the game up and earning Pock an overdue 10 points.
Pick of the batsmen was Lucas, a fantastic 89 off just 77 balls made huge inroads into Scarcrofts total.

Scarcroft -205 all out. Pocklington - 206/4 (28ov)

Special mentions to Josh F for keeping his head and staying positive when faced with a batsmen swinging like his life depended on it , Apie Pieterse for trying to keep people’s heads up when others were downbeat and to Adam Tolley for his usual sharpness in the field and encouragement of others .

Pock 3s now sit 12 points above relegation and are confident of another win this weekend as they host Scholes at Burnby Lane .
