Pocklington 3rds sponsored by Stamford’s were at home once again and looking to take 10 points from Thorpe Arch (Tabs) after losing the two previous games.
Things started brightly on a perfect weather day, skipper Wes Smith once again winning the toss. Feeling the pitch was a good one but would probably worsen, he opted to once again bat first.
His usual batting partner gaining a well earned promotion to the 2s, the skipper opened up with Apie Pieterse for the first time this season.

Tabs openers were an excellent pair.
Bowling very good lines and lengths, the 3s had to be watchful. Making sure any rare loose ball was punished, Pock got to 50 before the first wicket fell, Apie unluckily getting a top edge and being caught at square leg after batting well for his 23.

Adam Tolley joined the skipper at the crease and was also watchful as the quality bowling continued. Tolley was just hitting his stride when he was caught right on the deep square leg boundary for 11.

Young Josh Fiorentini then batted well for his 11, playing straight and respecting the good balls. Pock then lost clusters of wickets, Charlie Lovelock (19) was playing excellently until his off stump was removed by a very good ball from Tabs’ young opener.
Pock then lost 6 wickets for just 18 runs and didn’t manage to bat out the 40 overs. It has to be said, the 3s need to work on looking after their wicket and not allowing the opponents to take it at a cheap price. Young Oli Tong did well on debut scoring a much needed 14 before holing out to long off.
The 3s scratched along to 158, a below par total on a pitch that gave something for everyone.

Wolds tea rooms then provided another fantastic tea and back out came Pock looking to take early wickets and defend 158.

The early bowling was good but Tabs had a young opener that was punishing any width and he did so with style. The visitors lost wickets at regular intervals, George room, Miller and Apie taking 2 a piece.
However they managed to stick around and kept pushing on towards the total, taking advantage of an unusually lacklustre Pock performance in the field.
Oli Tong then put on a fantastic maiden 3s showing and was unlucky to be wicketless.
Tabs scrambled to the finishing line with just 1 over to spare taking the full 10 points and leaving Pock with 4 points and wondering what could and should have been.

Pocklington 3’s, looking to put that game behind them, now sit just 12 points above the relegation zone and have a tough game next Saturday against an in form Ben Johnson side away from home.
