Pocklington 3rds sponsored by Stamfords were at home, taking on Ben Johnson CC on a scorching Bank Holiday Monday.
Skipper Wes Smith chose the worst game to lose his first toss of the season and it was no surprise when the visitors opted to bat first.
The new cherry went to youngsters Lucas Tanikal and Harry Pieterse. They both bowled tight lines in sweltering conditions and had the visitors 19-2 with both openers back in the hutch.
Sam Thompson (2-40) then replaced Harry and although he struggled for rhythm he still bowled well given the heat.
Ben Johnson did manage to recover but with impressive spells from young Teddy Wilson and George Sellars, runs were hard to come by.
Lucas Tanikal (3-38) then returned and bowled in tandem with Alex Ashby (1-22) in a very impressive display to restrict the away side to 180/9 off their allotment.
The total was a good one but with the rapid outfield and youth on Pocks side they fancied the job.
Pocks openers got us off to a good start, Apie (14) was looking good until an unfortunate top edge went straight to square leg.
Up stepped James Foley (34) and put on a really super 50 partnership with young Joe Wilson (29) demonstrating how Pocklington blend youth with experience.
James continued on and set Pock up perfectly, needing 60 runs off 13 overs.
Ashby then had what can only be described as a rush of blood as he top edged to the keeper.
Up stepped the man of the moment, bumbles favourite cricketer, young Sam Thompson, who was very excited to be at the crease! So much so, the skipper had to calm him down after his eyes lit up at a loopy ball from their leggy, very nearly cost him his wicket.
From then on, he kept finding the middle of the bat, hitting 3 huge sixes, much to the delight of the substantial back pitch crowd.
Sam finished 36 not out off just 34 balls, accompanied by skipper Wes Smith who finally got some runs! (25 n.o) and the game was comfortably wrapped up in just 34 overs.
Shout out to Ben Johnson who always play the game in great spirit.
