Pocklington 3rds sponsored by Stamfords were on the road taking on Drax 2nds on
Saturday and after winning the toss for a fifth straight time! skipper Wes Smith chose to have a bat on a good looking surface.
Pock’s openers batted very well early doors, steadily making progress against some accurate bowling. Apie made sure anything that was short was dispatched in his usual classy style.
However after losing Apie (24) after a good start, wickets steadily tumbled, Lucas Tanikal being unlucky with his dismissal which could only be described as a bump ball.
Resistance from Adam Tolley (19) and Charlie Lovelock (33) saw Pocklington scramble to a total of 115..
Special mention to Charlie who retired after pulling his hamstring, only to return at the end of our innings in a display of true Aussie grit to add some late runs.
Tea was taken and gave Pock the opportunity to begin watching the play-off final and formulate a strategic bowling plan.
In an attempt to try something different Pock started with spin, much to the chagrin of the inebriated Drax crowd who clearly knew better!
Adam Tolley (0-30)and Robin Miller (0-15) bowling well and unlucky to end up wicketless.
Changing things up saw young Sam Thompson follow up his seemingly non-stop chirp with Pock’s first wicket!
Lucas Tanikal (0-18) (affectionately now known as Lu-Lu) kept things tight at the other end and was unlucky to get a wicket.
High spirits were maintained despite the inevitability of the impending loss, lots of banter, laughs and plenty of opportunities for our youngsters to get on and bowl. Mentions to both George Room and Alfie whitwell, demonstrating their readiness for senior cricket.
An enjoyable day was still had by all, win or lose, Pock always come together. Parents of our junior contingent cheering Pock on was fantastic to hear throughout.
With plenty of positives to take, Pock go into a scorching Bank Holiday Monday taking on Ben Johnson at home.
