Pocklington 3rd XI sponsored by Stamford's were at home for the first time this season and were looking to bounce back from losing out in a tight game at Hensall last week.
The weather was unpredictable with heavy showers around. Skipper Wes Smith won the toss, making it 3 out of 3! Choosing to bowl first.
Once again Riley bowled well (1-25) off his opening 7 alongside Fred Nightingale who was making his first appearance of the season, making a great start taking 3-25 from his 7 overs. It could have been 4 but the skipper, despite an age defying leap couldn’t get anywhere near a leading edge which seemed to just keep going up.
Miller once again bowled a solid middle overs spell (2-33) taking the vital wicket of Ali who was threatening to take the game away from Pocklington.
However, the pick of the bowlers was young Max Wilson. Bowling a very good line outside off stump with a touch of away movement saw Max take 3 wickets for just 10 runs in his impressive seven over stint.
Thorner posted a very gettable total of 114, but it did look like the rain was set to play a part..
After a delightful tea that some found it hard to tear themselves away from and with rain clouds overhead, Pocklington set about the chase.
A 40-run partnership from Joe and Max, who both looked to play straight and positively got us off to a very good start. Pocklington then lost a few wickets in succession but cameos from Adam Tolley and Ashby saw us all but home with Riley finishing off the innings with a big hit over mid-on.
It was fantastic to see the juniors playing a big part in the result and long may that continue!
A solid start to the season with 2 wins out of 3 along with 4 bonus points sees Pock sitting at a very respectable 4th in Division 4 EBOR.
Next week the 3’s take on league leaders Church Fenton at home in what promises to be a very competitive game.
