Hensall 2nd XI - 227/5 (40 Overs)
Pocklington 3rd XI 222 All Out (39.2 overs)
Umpire - Zander Adlington
Scorer - Tamsin
Pocklington 3rd XI sponsored by Stamford’s were on the road again hoping to capitalise on the previous weeks convincing victory over Thorpe Arch & Boston Spa
The weather was set fair and Skipper Wes Smith won the toss in what’s becoming a trend and chose to bowl on what looked to be an unpredictable surface.
Impressive opening spells from promising young cricketers Riley Tinson (0/51) and Lucas Tanikal (1/65) held the home side openers at bay, both overall figures not telling the full story. It took Harry Pieterse as first change to snaffle the first wicket.
The home side continued to build momentum on what turned out to be a very good batting track, taking advantage of a couple of dropped catches from a seemingly rusty Pocklington.
Robin Miller (1/26) from his 10 was the pick of the bowlers, doing a fantastic job of stemming the run rate whilst creating opportunities.
Ultimately the home side batted well and set a formidable 227/5 off their allotted 40 overs. Hensalls junior contingent performing impressively.
As nice as the interval teas were, the generous portions delivered to the Pocklington 11 could only be described as ‘tactical’.
As expected, hensall came out confident and did take early wickets, reducing the away side to 47/4. However, that confidence began to fade as a quick fire 22 from Alex Ashby raised Pocklingtons hopes of an unlikely victory.
James Kirby also came out with attacking intent and made a sterling contribution of 55 off 70 balls until he was ultimately bowled.
Most would be forgiven for thinking the game was over at that point, however, young Lucas Tanikal had other ideas.
In just 54 balls, Lucas had amassed 70 runs including 3 enormous sixes much to the delight of the away supporters!
Ultimately though, Pocklington fell just 5 runs shy of the home sides total.
All was not lost however, as 4 valuable points were added to the seasons tally in a display that showed the team more than worthy of their promotion.
The 3’s are very grateful to both umpire Zander Adlington who did a fantastic job and scorer Tamsin who kindly made the trip over from Pocklington.
Pocklington 3rd XI are at home next week, hoping to build on this performance against Thorner Mexborough.
