Pocklington 3rd XI sponsored by Stamford’s had a successful trip away to Thorpe Arch & Boston Spa on the opening day of the season.
Skipper Wes Smith won the toss and chose to bowl on what looked to be a low and slow surface.
A very good opening spell from Riley Tinson (0-19) was unlucky to be wicketless but did create important pressure that other bowlers took advantage of.
Tim Dennis was another bowler returning economical figures conceding just 5 runs in his 5 overs (1-5). A mention to Alfie Whitwell, bowling his first senior cricket overs, did very well and managed to grab a wicket (1-10)
Undoubtedly the pick of the bowlers was a promising junior, George Room who bowled 2 fantastic spells to grab his first 5fer! Returning superb figures of (5-36) from his 9 overs.
Chasing a respectable score of 145 on a difficult batting track, Marcus Smith (23) and Apie Pieterse (50) with a patient, well crafted half century put on a superb opening stand of 71 to build a solid foundation in what ended up being a comfortable run chase, Wes Smith finishing with an unbeaten 40.
Matt Smith finished things off in style to take all 10 points.
The game was played in fantastic spirit and it was great to see many juniors not only playing a part but performing well!
The 3’s are on the road next Saturday, taking on Hensalls 2nd XI.
