After losing the toss Pocks young 3rd XI were invited to bat first at Clifton on Sunday and started well with Jonny Sumner (28) and Ian Scott (32) both getting starts. After both fell a couple more wickets followed with Will Atkinson (10) and Olly Scott (5) also out cheaply. At 89-4 two of the many talented junior players Josh Tanikal (41) and Fred Nightingale (59) then put on a match winning partnership of 89 including a maiden half century for Nightingale at nearly a run a ball. Both fell late on and a few more runs were added which helped Pock finish on a score of 212-9.
The Clifton reply started well and much like the visitors they had several players make starts but wickets were falling and the score 68-4. Martin Kidd (1-22) bowled a superb opening ten overs including six maidens alongside Ben Davidson (2-45). The remaining 20 overs then fell to the clubs young contingent with ARchie Sumner (1-34) picking up a wicket and Josh Stables bowling well without reward. The final overs were bowled by Nightingale and Ryan Kidd (2-28) who picked up vital wickets to slow Cliftons progress as they needed only 11 to win in the last over, the hosts fell short though and finished on 205-7 meaning a bounce back victory for the 3rds and an important 30 points as they try to close the gap on South Cave in 2nd.
Next week the 3rds are at home and host Heslington 3s.
