Pocklington 2nds sponsored by Stamfords travelled away on Saturday for their first ever visit to Thorner Mexborough and as has become custom, skipper Ian Scott lost the toss but surprisingly was asked to bowl first on what can only be described as a bowler friendly surface.

Freddie Hara (3-35) made the most of the conditions to get two early wickets to reduce Thorner to 10-2, from here the hosts then made the most of a couple of dropped chances and close calls to rally to 76 thanks to a couple of useful knocks. The cameo appearance of our Scottish friend Ben Lister (1-11) proved you never lose it as he picked up a wicket, 15 year old Max Lovelock (2-24) and Lewis Chaplin (4-20) made the big difference though as the pair bowled well and picked up six wickets in their combined spells to reduce Thorner to 98-9, Hara then returned to finish the innings with his third as Thorner were bowled out for 113.

This was never going to be an easy total to chase though with balls both popping at the batters heads and shooting past their ankles on the same length, early wickets were lost in reply with John Chaplin (27) and Charlie Lovelock (18) providing the required resistance, however when both were out things looked dicey at 74-6. Max Lovelock (22) showed his all round ability though with a fantastic and pivotal knock in helping the team chase their target. Unfortunately Max was bowled late on but Matt Smith (18*) finished the game in style with a six to win the game and help the team to their fourth consecutive victory which adds another ten points to the league total and sees the team sit in 3rd place and eight points behind next weeks visitors to Burnby Lane, Goole 2nds.
