Pocklington 2nds sponsored by Stamfords made the short journey to Wheldrake last weekend and their hosts elected to bat first after winning the toss. The top order for Wheldrake started well but wickets from Lewis Chaplin (2-56) and the introduction of Alex Ashby (5-24) saw wickets fall with Wheldrake 61-3. Geoff Woodward bowled a 12 over spell and was unlcuky not to pick up a wicket as the Wheldrake middle order showed some grit and Johar (51) made what proved to be a vital half century for his team before Ashby switched ends to claim a five wicket haul and slow the scoring as Wheldrake finished on 194-8, the other wicket coming from a direct run out from Will Foley who also bowled a good spell and was unlucky to get a wicket of his own.
After the early loss of skipper Ian Scott (4), James Fletcher (31) and Rich Readman (74) then rebuilt the innings before Fletcher was caught with the score 87-2. Dan Croft (21) joined Readman who went on to pass his half century but was then caught with the score 133-3, Chaplin (2) was next back in the hut and was then followed by Croft, from here only Joss Room (12) could reach double figures as the team slid to defeat when bowled out in the 38th over 31 runs short of their target. Two points were still picked up in defeat however as the 2nds sit in fifth place in Division 2 Ebor.
Next week the 2nds are back in home action and host Hillam & Monk Fryston.
