Pocklington 2nd XI sponsored by Stamfords took on Selby 2nds on opening day and the fixture was moved to our second field at Burnby Lane due to ground unavailability for Selby. Skipper Ian Scott won the toss and chose to bowl first and junior opening pair Lewis Chaplin and Freddie Forman (5-29) justified his decision with a superb opening spell each with Chaplin unlucky not to get a wicket. The age defying Geoff Woodward (2-44) returned for the 2026 season fresh as ever and took no time in claiming his first wickets of the season. Robin Miller (1-8) also picked up a wicket on his PCC return whilst Harry Collins (2-50) finished the innings off as Selby posted a total of 183.
On what is usually a very good batting track this looked to be a score below par and it proved to be the case as openers Scott (81) and Martin Stables (78*) both hit half centuries, they were on course to knock the score off on their own before Scott was bowled needing only 2 to win. John Fiorentini (1*) then joined Stables to finish the game in 29 overs meaning an opening day win for the 2nds in Division 2 Ebor and a full ten points.
Next week the 2nds are on the road and travel away to face Ledsham.
