Opening day win for the 2s

The 2nds sponsored by Stamfords Bar hosted Carlton Towers 2s at Burnby Lane and hit 220-8 batting first, Joss Room (69) led the scoring with a half century. Carltons reply never really materialized thanks to some tight bowling from Pocks attack and they finished short on 190-6, under 15 Freddie Forman (2-47) the pick of the bowling.

Our 2nd XI sponsored by Stamfords Bar hosted one of the Div 2 Ebor title favourites this year in Carlton Towers 2s in the first league fixture of 2025 at Burnby Lane. Skipper John Chaplin (Pocklington Window Center) lost the toss and was asked to bat, not a bad toss to lose after seeing how well the deck played only one week ago.

After a slow start and the team 8-0 after 8 overs, the openers Tom Binns (6) and James Foley (0) fell to bring Joss Room (69 - Stamfords Bar) and Neal Jackson (34 - J.S. Wright & Sons) together to progress the innings before Jackson was caught. Dan Croft (11 - Green Home People) came was also caught with the score moved onto 91-4 which became 91-5 after Max Wilson (0) got fell second ball on debut. Ben Lister (37) then became the partner Room needed and made the most of a dropped catch as the pair put on 81 before Room was caught after a well played half century. More wickets fell late on but father and son John (24*) & Lewis Chaplin (23* - Rooms Painters & Decorators) put on a great ninth wicket stand to help the 2s finish on 220-8 from their 45 overs.

After a fantastic tea provided by Whisk, the 2s set about defending their target and did the job really well with some fantastic bowling helping to restrict the scoring. Carlton struggled to ever really kick on in their run chase thanks to the impressive all round bowling display and eventually fell well short finishing on 190-6 to hand the 2s an impressive opening day victory and all ten points. Under 15 Freddie Forman (2-47) the pick of the bowlers with an impressive ten overs, Lister (2-43), and Alfie Glass (2-43) also on debut took two wickets.

Next week the 2nds are on the road and make the trip away to face Castleford 2s where they will be looking to avenge last years two league defeats and continue their impressive start on Saturday.
