The 2nds sponsored by A&M Removals of Pocklington hosted Church Fenton on Saturday and unsurprisingly the visitors chose to bat first after winning the toss on yet another fantastic looking pitch.
Harry Collins (2-44) having to play at home due to work commitments took an early wicket with Fenton 20-1, not long after with a good early spell at the other end from Lewis Chaplin the prize wicket of league leading run scorer Brough looked to be taken but the chance went down. Brough certainly cashed in on his second life as he went on to make a well played century as he helped lead his team to a score of 238-6 from their 45 overs. Wickets did not come until late on in the innings and Pock made things harder for themselves with a few dropped chances, the returning Ted Donkin bowled well in the middle overs without reward whilst the other wickets were spread between skipper John Chaplin (1-50), one more for Collins and juniors Will Foley (1-34) and Archie Sumner (2-41).
The Pock reply started well reaching 54 without loss before James Foley (22) was given out LBW, Collins (60) who opened up passed his half century along side Ian Scott (50) before being caught as he tried hitting out with time against him needing to leave for work. James Saltmer (24) added some quick runs alongside Scott before he was bowled and the score now 176-3. Pock always had wickets in hand even when Scott was caught at gully immediately after making a well-played half century. Dan Croft (40*) and John Chaplin (18*) then took on the responsibility of chasing down the score from 197-4 with the overs ticking away. The scoring stayed quick though and after a brief delay caused by an error shown on the overs remaining, (which had been confirmed by opposition scorer and umpire), it went down to the last over. Much to the delight of the PCC crowd though the Fenton bowler was hit for four with a ball remaining to hand the 2nds an impressive six wicket home win over 3rd placed Church Fenton.
The 2nds are back on the road next week and are in action against Wheldrake.
