Pocklington 1sts sponsored by Stamfords hosted Drax this week in the Championship Central Division and after winning the toss skipper Joel Taylor elected to bowl first.
Things started well with a couple of early wickets including a run out from Ted Donkin and a wicket for Freddie Forman (3-62) as Drax found themselves 12-2. From here the visitors rallied though and were largely indebted to an excellent innings from Piggott (123) who survived an early LBW shout to go on to make a well played century as he helped guide his team to a first innings total of 288 when bowled out in the last over. Drax had scored steadily throughout and managed to use the full innings to add useful late runs to boost their score, earlier Dave Chaplin (3-36) had bowled another terrific 13 over spell to keep things tight, Forman picked up another couple of wickets at the end whilst there were also wickets for Alex Downey (1-75) and Will Atkinson (2-55).
Pock struggled in their reply and lost wickets early and at regular intervals, Talyor (13), Anderson (20), Donkin (12), John Fiorentini (25) and Joss Room (32) who top scored all had starts but were unable to go on to a telling score. Chaplin (22*) batted well late on but was left stranded as Forman (8) was the last wicket to fall with the team bowled out for 165 in the 44th over.
A tough defeat for the 1sts who will look to bounce back next week as they go back on the road and face Goole away.
