Pocklington 1sts sponsored by Stamfords were away in Championship Central action on Saturday and made the short journey up the road to Dunnington to face the current league leaders in what was sure to be a tough game.

On a good looking surface Dunnington unsurprisingly opted to bat first after winning the toss and made a good start reaching 62 before losing their opener Brittain (30) off the bowling of Freddie Forman (1-67). The hosts high flying overseas Samarasooriya (94) was next in and alongside Sherwood (141) who made an impressive century put on 206 for the second wicket before Samarasooriya was caught and bowled by Will Atkinson (1-108) just short of his century. Sherwood was next to go thanks to a fine catch by Atkinson off the bowling of Dave Chaplin (1-65) who bowled another solid 13 overs for Pock in two spells. There was also a run out which proved to be the last wicket to fall as Dunnington amassed a huge first innings score of 360-4.

After tea Pock set about their run chase with skipper Joel Taylor (58) moving up the order to partner John Fiorentini (3) looking to get his side off to a fast start, which worked well despite the loss of Fiorentini early one, Taylor moved the scoring onto 92 passing his half century alongside Harry Snelling (36) before being caught in the deep. Snelling too was caught not long after getting himself in, this brough Cameron Mitchell (49) and Nathan Saltmer (35) together and the pair batted well putting on a useful 79 run partnership and maintaining their pace in pursuit of the target. Unfortunately the partnership was broken on 183 as Mitchell was caught one shy of his half century and Saltmer followed not long after also caught with the score now 201-5. From here the in form Dan Littlewood (70) pressed on alongside the free scoring Atkinson (40) as the pair added 102 for the sixth wicket all the while staying in touch with the required run rate, with Littlewood passing his half century for the third game running.

As it had throughout the innings the game took another turn though as a flurry of wickets ensued with Atkinson being caught and then being followed back by Littlewood who was trapped lbw, Charlie Lambert (13) added some more runs as the chase continued but was also caught in the deep with the score now 328-8. The game was still in the balance but the Pock team showed superb resilience and their strength in depth in the batting line up with Dave Chaplin (13*) in at nine now partnered by Alex Downey (16*) in at ten. The pair batted the remaining overs to perfection and in the last over of the game with five balls to spare Chaplin hit the winning runs to send the away dressing room into raptures as the team completed what is sure to be a club and possibly one of the leagues highest ever run chases and seal a famous and important away win to add a much needed ten points to the league tally.

A really good team performance that was rightly celebrated throughout the club as the 1sts made it back to back wins with their high scoring win, next week the 1sts are back on the road and will be facing Selby in league action.
